A big day yesterday at Swanvale Herefords, with commercial producers and stud breeders attending our Northen Beef Week Open Day. Peter, Karen, Glen and Kate were only too pleased to welcome visitors, have a chat and share their passion for the industry.
On display, there were 3 sale bulls for Glen Innes Hereford Bull Sale in July; yearling bulls for 2020 sales; yearling horned and polled heifers; heifers to calve at 2-year-old in January; commercial heifers; cows with newborn calves; as well as springers.
It was a great day with plenty of interest in our farm operations, cattle genetics and breeding specifics. Our commercial focus was of great interest to the commercial breeders and managing cattle in the drought. Stud breeders were interested in the breeding dynamics and our AI program.
A highlight was having some of our cows and calves as well as springers, for producers to see our valued maternal traits and to depict where these bulls have been bred from. The Land Newspaper photographer was particularly thrilled to have a focus on the entire herd rather than just photographing bulls.
Local property owners and beef producers enjoyed inspecting the several yards of cattle and many of them stayed for 1 or 2 hours. It was pleasing for us to see these people enjoying themselves at our place.
We were also pleased to have local business representatives attend with an interest in knowing about our cattle and showing their support. It was pleasing that those that did attend were happy with the way we presented our stud stock and they could appreciate our commercial focus.
Visitors were also treated with home-baked cakes and slices for morning and afternoon tea along with a warm cuppa. Lunch was delicious with a choice of pumpkin soup or beef and gravy rolls. Nobody left hungry.
Thank you for all the support from our visitors and we are so glad you enjoyed your day out here at Swanvale Herefords.
